One of Mexico's worse earthquakes with a magnitude of 8.1 in Mexico City. Damage was concentrated with a 25 Km2 area of Mexico City, 350Km from epi center. The population before the earthquake was of 18 million, after the earthquake a estimate of 10,000 people died, 50,000 injured and 250,000 people lost their homes while 800 building got torn down.

Zihuatanejo, Mexico had a 6.6 magnitude earthquake on December 10th 1994. It was located about 30 km inland, within the subducted Cocos plate.
